Numerical Simulation of Imported Sediment in a Stilling Basin

Sediment buildup at the bottom of a stilling basin can result in premature drainage spillway structures and even lead to dam failure severe cases. Such failures pose ecological human safety hazards downstream areas. To evaluate sudden discharge potential associated with sediment buildup, we developed two-dimensional two-phase flow simulation model built on particle-based force balance equation. We compared patterns energy dissipation effects different inlet flows (2, 3, 4.5, 6.75 m 2 /s), subsequent deposition was across sand mass rates (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 kg/s). The results show that turbulent increased increasing unit width rate. In addition, average rate positively correlated concentration, correlation coefficient could be as high 0.97. this method, error simulated value over theoretical less than 10%. This provides practical reference for managers.
